Brazilian player invades pitch to make goal-line save

Saturday, April 6, 2013

A Brazilian player has been given a six-match ban for sneaking onto the pitch without permission and stopping a certain goal by heading the ball off the line.

Bangu defender Celsinho was receiving treatment for a cramp behind the goal when goalkeeper Getulio Vargas dribbled his way out of defense, but lost the ball to an opponent in the match against Duque de Caxias.

That set up Duque's Charles Chad for a shot on the empty net, but Celsinho leapt up, rushed on to the field from seemingly nowhere and cleared the ball with a diving header.

The defender was sent off and Duque were awarded an indirect free-kick inside the box which came to nothing and the Carioca Championship match ended 2-2.
