Whilst Copenhagen made a lively start to the game, ominously the visitors quickly began to stamp their authority on the game at the Parken Stadium, where no visiting team had ever won a Champions League group match.

Carlo Ancelotti's men continued to pressure and with 25 minutes on the clock Modrić scored with a superb curling effort.

The former Tottenham Hotspur ace received the ball on the right-hand side of the box, shrugged off two Copenhagen players before curling in a brilliant strike that found its way to the top corner.

It was reminiscent of the goal he scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo added a second from close range three minutes into the second-half, and in the process broke the record for the most goals scored in a single group-stage campaign with nine.
