Brazilian club Esporte Clube Vitória celebrated one of their most famous supporters, actor Wagner Moura, with a unique tribute on Saturday afternoon, and marked the occasion with an impressive 2-0 victory over Atlético Mineiro at the Barradão in Salvador.

The match, part of the sixth round of the Brazilian Série A, saw the Bahia-based club rise to 11th place with seven points, whilst the visitors slipped to 15th with five points.

Vitória strike clinically

Despite Atlético starting strongly and creating early chances, Vitória struck first with their first shot on target.

In the 19th minute, striker Renato Kaizer converted a free-kick from the edge of the box, firing through a gap in the defensive wall.

Atlético goalkeeper Everson managed to get a hand to the ball but could not keep it out.

The visitors struggled to respond after conceding and nearly fell further behind before the break, with Everson forced into a strong save to deny Erick.

Erick seals the victory

Atlético attempted to change the momentum early in the second half as head coach Eduardo Domínguez introduced attacking stars Hulk and Dudu in the 57th minute.

However, Vitória doubled their lead in the 67th minute through Erick, who finished a counter-attack with a trademark diagonal strike after receiving a pass from Baralhas.

The home side comfortably managed the remaining minutes as Atlético struggled to create clear opportunities.

The win also extended Vitória’s strong recent record against the Belo Horizonte side.
