Arsenal fan allegedly killed in Uganda during Premier League title celebrations
An Arsenal supporter has reportedly died in Uganda following an alleged altercation that unfolded as fans celebrated the club’s Premier League title triumph.

Police in Kampala have launched a manhunt after the death of a 34-year-old man, identified only as Denis, who was said to be an Arsenal fan. Authorities allege the suspect is a Manchester United supporter.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening in Bakuli, a suburb of Uganda's capital, where Denis had joined fellow supporters at a public viewing centre to watch Arsenal's decisive 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The victory marked Arsenal's first English top-flight title in 22 years, sparking jubilant celebrations among supporters across the world - particularly in Uganda, where Premier League clubs command fiercely loyal followings.

According to Kampala police spokeswoman Rachel Kawala, the confrontation began as a disagreement between Denis and another man.
The incident occurred at about 6.30pm on Sunday.

Preliminary reports indicate that Denis, who was reportedly an Arsenal FC supporter, got into a misunderstanding with a man identified as Musiramu, who is said to be a fan of Manchester United.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect allegedly struck Denis on the head.

He fell to the ground and died instantly. Efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing.
Police have not confirmed what triggered the reported dispute.

Football rivalries under scrutiny

The tragedy has reignited concerns over football-related violence in Uganda, where English Premier League fandom is deeply embedded in popular culture.

Across major towns and cities, supporters regularly gather at roadside viewing centres, bars and community halls to watch live matches, often backing English clubs with intense passion.

Whilst these gatherings are typically festive, rivalries have occasionally spilled over into violence.

Local outlet Nile Post said the latest incident had raised "fresh concerns over violent confrontations arising from football rivalries," particularly in densely populated urban communities where supporters watch matches in close quarters.

Although authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Denis' death, the case has once again highlighted how sporting tribalism can escalate beyond the pitch.
