Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has given the retiring Paolo Maldini the ultimate compliment for a player in an AC Milan jersey.
The Milan legend has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the season and Sunday’s game against AS Roma will be his last at San Siro.
Tributes to his career are coming from all corners these days and Juve star Del Piero called in to Milan Channel during an interview to speak to his former Nazionale team-mate.
"You are truly the number one!" Del Piero said.
"There are great players and there are world class players. Then there are some players who even go beyond that. Paolo is a perfect example of that.
"Maldini is the symbol of Milan and has done even more than Franco Baresi and all the other great players.
"He has reached incredible heights in his career and at the same time managed to become a unique presence in his team, in Italian football and on the international stage."
