World Cup 2010 Group H: Spain 2-0 Honduras

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Spain bounced back from their shock loss against Switzerland as they recorded a 2-0 victory over Honduras in Johannesburg.

The reigning European champions opened the scoring after 17 minutes when David Villa flamencoed past Sergio Mendoza, Amado Guevarra and Osman Chávez before blasting home past Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares.

Villa struck again six minutes into the second period when his shot from the edge of the area deflected off Chávez and went over Valladares.

The new Barcelona striker had a chance for a hat-trick when Spain were awarded a spot-kick after Jesús Navas was brought down by Emilio Izaguirre inside the area. Villa stepped up, but surprisingly rolled his effort wide of the post.
