Atlético Madrid kept their place above Real Sociedad in the La Liga standings after defeating their rivals 4-2 at home.
The hosts took a 12th-minute lead through Joseba Llorente, but Atlético bounced back with Diego Forlán levelling with 19 minutes to go before two late Sergio Agüero efforts turned the match on its head.
Diego Rivas reduced the arrears with a well-placed shot on 86 minutes but Atlético made sure of the points in injury-time when Simão netted from the penalty spot after José Antonio Reyes had been felled inside the area.
