Bayern Munich showed Manchester City just how tough life is at the highest level in European football with a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena.
The hosts went ahead on 38 minutes when Mario Gómez finally found a way past Joe Hart after the City goalkeeper had kept out Franck Ribéry's initial shot and somehow blocked Thomas Müller's follow-up from point-blank range.
And Hart was left fuming again on the stroke of half-time as his reflexes kept out Daniel van Buyten's flicked header, only to see Gómez again left in space by Kolo Touré to tuck home his second of the night.
