Soccer star David Beckham has been fined $1,000 by Major League Soccer following his confrontation with a LA Galaxy fan earlier this week.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder was booed throughout last Sunday's friendly with AC Milan by Galaxy supporters, who were angry he spent five months on loan with the Italians last term.

With the abuse seemingly taken too far for his liking, Becks walked towards a group of fans, challenged them to meet him on the pitch and tried to climb over the advertising hoardings before security intervened.

Police arrested a fan who left the stands to meet Beckham's alleged challenge.

"We support our players interacting with fans, whether it is at clinics, charity events or by high-fiving their supporters in the stands while celebrating a goal," MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement.

"However, our players should never engage in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands and on to the field, regardless of the reason."
