Paris St Germain captain Claude Makélélé has signed a contract extension that binds him to the capital club until 2010.

The 36-year-old, who joined PSG from Chelsea in 2008, had been rumoured to be considering retirement after a fall-out with coach Paul Le Guen last season.

But the departure of ex-Olympique Lyon boss Le Guen last month has convinced him to stay.

"Staying on in Paris was my aim at the end of the season," Makélélé told www.psg.fr.

"I'm happy to take this decision and I hope we will have another season full of emotion for the players, the club and the supporters."
