Patrick Vieira linked with shock Arsenal return

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger wants his former captain Patrick Vieira to make a shock return to North London.

Vieira is desperate to leave the San Siro as the midfielder is now out of favour at José Mourinho's Inter Milan.

And The Sun reports that Arsenal have offered the 33-year-old a one-year deal that will reduce his basic wage, but include big bonuses.

Bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on bringing the Frenchman to London, and have offered him an identical offer.

Wenger initially signed Vieira from AC Milan in 1996 for £3.5 million, and was sold nine years later for around £13.7 million.

The Gunners have not won a trophy since the combative midfielder departed and his return would be welcomed by fans who voted him fifth in the 50 all-time Arsenal greats.
