Premier League: Man City 2-1 Chelsea

Table of Contents
Manchester City did local rivals Manchester United a huge favour in the title race by defeating leaders Chelsea in a fast, furious and controversial clash at Eastlands.

The Blues had gone in front in fortuitous circumstances through an Emmanuel Adebayor own goal, but the Togo international atoned for his error by equalising at the correct end before half-time.

Carlos Tévez then fired a 20-yard free-kick past badly-positioned keeper Petr Čech in the 56th minute to earn a first league victory in eight games.

And, after Didier Drogba was tripped by Nedum Onuoha, Frank Lampard delayed his spot-kick run-up twice before seeing Shay Given save the tame low penalty.
