Tottenham Hotspur moved into the coveted fourth position in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

Jermain Defoe smashed home the opener from the spot following John Terry's handball and a brilliant Gareth Bale goal made it two before the break.

Terry's nightmare afternoon plumbed new depths when he was sent off for a second yellow card shortly after the hour mark.

Frank Lampard set up a tense finish when he scored in injury time before the final whistle, but Tottenham held firm to down their London rivals.
