Barcelona shook off their midweek Champions League semi-final exit with a comfortable 4-1 win at Villarreal.
The visitors broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Xavi fed Lionel Messi who turned quickly before his shot from an angle took a slight deflection and flew in.
Xavi then got his side's second on the half hour with a superb free-kick from the edge of the box.
Teenage striker Bojan Krkić added a third three minutes before the break with a superb solo effort.
Joseba Llorente pulled a goal back for Villarreal on 67 minutes, but Barca were never stretched and Messi added his second two minutes from the end.
