First-half goals from Lucas Barrios and Robert Lewandowski were enough to earn Jürgen Klopp's side the three points that, combined with Leverkusen's defeat at Köln, enabled them to move eight points clear at the top of the table with only two rounds left.

Die Borussen therefore clinched the title, sparking scenes of joy from over 80,000 fans inside the Signal Iduna Park as Dortmund won their seventh Bundesliga title and their first since 2002.

"I'm just happy. I thought I'd be euphoric but maybe that'll come," said a beer-soaked Klopp in a television interview.

"The team has achieved extraordinary things, set high standards and handled every pressure situation very well.

"What these young guys have achieved is hard to put into words."

Dortmund midfielder Kevin Großkreutz added: "I can't really describe it - we played a really awesome season."

Leverkusen coach Jupp Heynckes offered his congratulations, saying: "Dortmund played the best Bundesliga football for long periods. I think it's brilliant. It's an outstanding accomplishment."
