Thursday, March 8, 2012

Lionel Messi scored a record five goals to help Barcelona defending champions Barcelona crush Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 at home to advance to the quarter-finals with a 10-2 aggregate win.

Barcelona already led 3-1 after the first leg and the Argentine superstar put the result beyond doubt by scoring twice in the first half.

He added three more after the break, while substitute Cristian Tello added a brace as the Spanish giants stretched their unbeaten run at the Camp Nou to 50 games.

Karim Bellarabi scored a consolation goal in injury time for Leverkusen, whose defeat equaled the worst-ever result for a team in one leg in the round-of-16.
