The game had to wait until after halftime to see its first goal, but Moffatt's 49th-minute blast was worth the delay.

Andrew Driver sent a corner kick into the mix, where it was headed away by Chad Barrett.

But the clearance fell to Moffat 25 yards from goal and the Scotsman launched a left-footed volley that New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth could only get a hand on.

Saër Sène pulled New England level six minutes later, but a bit of fortune in the 79th minute helped the Dynamo win the game as Moffat's long range effort ricocheted off the back of a diving Shuttleworth and into the net.

"It came down and I thought I'd take a touch, but it took a little bit longer to come down so I thought I'd better hit it," Moffat said after the game.

"Fortunately for me I caught it well and the goalie saw it late. I was delighted with that."
