An emotional Antony broke down in tears as he was unveiled as a Real Betis player on Tuesday, finally bringing an end to a "difficult" three years at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old completed a £21.6 million permanent switch to the La Liga side on transfer deadline day, having impressed during a loan spell in Seville last season.

The deal also includes a sell-on clause, with United entitled to 50 percent of any future transfer fee.

Antony Reflects on Manchester Struggles

Antony admitted the past year at Old Trafford had been particularly tough.

He was dropped into a so-called "bomb squad" by manager Ruben Amorim, training separately from the first-team alongside the likes of Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho.
Only my family knows how difficult it was to be there. Training separately...

But I knew this incredible moment was coming. Of course I was afraid that this would not happen in the end, but I waited because I had a lot of faith.
He also couldn't resist a cheeky swipe at his old surroundings.
What a difference! Seville is more beautiful than Manchester. I'm finally here.

Betis Move 'First Choice'

The Brazilian winger had made no secret of his desire to return to Betis, where he scored nine goals and registered five assists in 26 appearances last season, helping the club to the UEFA Conference League final.
For me, affection is very important - it's something money can't buy. Here I have a lot of feeling and affection.

It was always my first choice and that's why I waited until the last day to return to Betis.

Now I'm here and happy in a city and a club that I love.
The former Ajax Amsterdam ace revealed Betis fans had shown overwhelming support.
It has been difficult for me to sleep seeing so much affection from the Betis fans. There were people waiting at my house at 2 in the morning.

Fresh Start in Spain

Antony arrived at United from Ajax in 2022 for a staggering £82 million, making him the club's second-most expensive signing after Paul Pogba.

But his three-year stint in Manchester never lived up to the price tag, with 96 appearances, just 12 goals, and constant scrutiny over his form.

Now, with a long-term future secured in Seville, Antony says he is ready to focus purely on football.

Betis fans won't have to wait long to see him back in action as Antony is expected to feature against Levante on 14 September, after the international break.
