Eliseu's wonder-strike had put Málaga ahead before eventually losing 2-1 at Atlético Madrid as the Andalusians failed to secure fourth place in an absorbing encounter.
The visitors had the better of the opening period and deservedly took the lead eight minutes before the break in stunning fashion.
Following a free kick, Isco had a shot blocked by an Atlético defender and the ball popped up in the air and out of the penalty area.
Eliseu then picked up the loose ball outside the area before thumping a remarkable left-footed strike into Thibaut Courtois' top right-hand corner.
Málaga were on top for much of the game, but Atlético put together a fantastic performance in the final 30 minutes of the game to pull off a 2-1 win.
