Brazil moved into second place in South American World Cup qualifying table with a comfortable 3-0 win over Peru at Estádio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.

The home side completely dominated their weak opponents, and Luís Fabiano found the back of the net within the first few minutes, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

But Brazil continued to pile heavy pressure on the Peruvian goal, and they finally opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Fabiano struck from the spot after Kaká was brought down on the area.

The Sevilla striker doubled the lead nine minutes later as he controlled a floated ball into the area from Daniel Alves and fired home past Peru goalkeeper Leao Butrón.

Midfielder Felipe Melo scored the third from the edge of the area in the 65th minute to seal the victory.

While Peru hit the crossbar once towards the end of the game, the Brazilian win was never in doubt.
