Manchester United ended Arsenal's perfect start to the season as an own goal by Abou Diaby gave the Red Devils a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

The Gunners controlled much of the first half and took the lead through Andrei Arshavin's rocket five minutes before the break.

United drew level on 59 minutes when goalkeeper Manuel Almunia brought down Wayne Rooney in the box and the latter stepped up to send the Spaniard the wrong way from the spot.

And the home fans were celebrating again within four minutes as Diaby headed a Ryan Giggs free-kick into his own net, leaving Almunia stranded as the ball bounced in.

Robin van Persie found the net in injury time but his effort was chalked off after William Gallas had strayed offside and the game ended with farcical scenes when Gunners boss Arsène Wenger, furious at some of the referee's decision, was ordered off the bench and sent to the stands.
