Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly called Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeneß in regards to a possible deal for Franck Ribéry.
According to The Sun, the Russian billionaire has made clear his intention to recruit the French star and is willing to break the British transfer record by tabling a bid of £40 million.
A senior Bayern source said: "Uli was taken by surprise by the phone call but was very honest and courteous with Mr Abramovich.
"We are still resolved to keep Ribéry but Hoeneß agreed to meet with Abramovich in Germany to discuss any offer."
However, there is strong competition for Ribéry's signature as the 26-year-old is reportedly on the radars of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Barcelona.
