Manchester United remain on course to defend their Carling Cup crown after beating Wolverhampton 1-0 at Old Trafford despite being reduced to 10 men.

Danny Welbeck scored the lone goal in the 66th minute following a dazzling one-two with Michael Owen.

It was a big relief to United after they played an hour with 10 men following Fabio da Silva's red card for rugby-tackling Michael Kightly when he was clean through.
