Sevilla moved to within just four points of leaders Barcelona after they saw off struggling Xerez 2-0 in an intense Andalusian derby.
Álvaro Negredo opened the scoring after 42 minutes when he did well to control a long pass before heading over goalkeeper Renan.
And Luís Fabiano sealed the win in the closing minutes as he latched onto Jesús Navas' pass and beat Renan with a clinical angled drive.
