Wayne Rooney: My best Man United goal so far

Table of Contents
Wayne Rooney has scored plenty of memorable goals thoughout his six seasons with Manchester United, and he has picked one of them as his favourite.

His superbly executed goal against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on April 24, 2005, is his favourite goal for United, and a favourite of all Red Devils fans.

The England striker had had a frustrating game before his goal, and just before the volley his frustration boiled over when he was booked for a late challenge on James Milner.

But that exasperation was quickly put behind him when Rooney leaves then Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given helpless with a vicious right-foot volley from the edge of the penalty area that flies into the roof of the net in front of the Stretford End.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand's #5 Magazine, Rooney said: "I think my best one was against Newcastle, my volley.

"I was arguing with the ref, trying to get Alan Shearer booked and the ball dropped. I was about 25 yards out and I just hit it as hard as I could and it went into the top corner."
