Chelsea have launched their new third kit for the 2025/26 season, taking fans back to the wild and wonderful José Mourinho era for inspiration.

The shirt is part of Nike's "Total 90" throwback range, reimagining the mid-2000s designs that many Blues fans will remember fondly.

The jersey features shield-shaped piping, a central crest, and sharp collars and trim - all hallmarks of that iconic football fashion era.

A Nod to Mourinho's First Dynasty

The kit pays homage to Chelsea's 2004/05 away shirt, worn during Mourinho's first season at Stamford Bridge.

That campaign saw summer arrivals Petr Čech, Ricardo Carvalho, Arjen Robben, and Didier Drogba slot seamlessly into a side already boasting John Terry, Claude Makélélé, and Frank Lampard.

The result? Chelsea's first league title in 50 years, plus the League Cup. Mourinho famously declared himself the "Special One" - and delivered exactly that.

From Triumph to Tension - and Back Again

After retaining the title in 2006, Mourinho's first spell ended in 2007 following a fallout with then-owner Roman Abramovich.

But the Portuguese coach returned in 2013 and won the Premier League once again, proving his magic touch at the Bridge.

Whilst Mourinho's tenure was always dramatic, his legacy of success remains unmatched in modern Chelsea history.

By revisiting his iconic kits, Nike have tapped into a rich emotional connection with fans.

Chelsea's Present and Future

The new kit arrives as Chelsea enter the 2025/26 season as reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions, looking to capture their first Premier League crown since 2016/17.

And fans will hope this new kit can bring a bit of Mourinho's old magic back to Stamford Bridge.
