The England defender was on the verge of sealing a £35 million transfer to the Premier League champions, having already completed a medical in London.
A deal sheet had even been submitted to the Premier League to extend talks past the 7pm cut-off.
But in a chaotic turn of events, the transfer fell apart when Palace's chosen replacement, Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio, opted instead to join West Ham United.
Without defensive reinforcements secured, Palace pulled the plug - leaving Guéhi's Anfield dream on hold.
The Leaked Goodbye Video
Despite the collapse, a three-minute farewell video - clearly prepared for Guéhi's exit - appeared on X (formerly Twitter) and quickly went viral. The emotional clip began in black-and-white, showing Guéhi's first interview after joining from Chelsea in 2021.
It then rolled into highlights of his Palace career:
- His first goal for the club
- His debut as captain and post-match interview
- The moment he discovered his first England call-up
- Interactions with team-mates, including the now-departed Eberechi Eze
- His defensive highlights and goals, capped by his strike against Aston Villa last weekend
I'm a South London boy. Grew up in South London. Captained the club from a young age.The final shot faded to black with the words: "Thank You Skip."
They've been fantastic for me and my family. Definitely a pleasure to play for this football club.

Palace's Gamble with Their Captain
Palace manager Oliver Glasner is understood to have played a decisive role in keeping Guéhi, reportedly threatening to quit if his skipper was sold without replacements secured. But Palace now face a delicate dilemma as Guéhi has just one year left on his contract and could walk away on a free next summer, with the option to start pre-contract talks with foreign clubs in January 2026.
Liverpool, who view Guéhi as a long-term successor to Ibrahima Konaté, who is out of contract in 2026, are expected to revisit their interest.
Since joining Palace, Guéhi has made 161 appearances, scoring nine goals and establishing himself as one of the league's most reliable centre-backs.
