World Cup qualifier: Argentina 1-3 Brazil

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Brazil sealed their qualification for the World Cup in South Africa after defeating Argentina 3-1 in Rosario.

The visitors took the lead on 24 minutes when Luisão, with barely a marker within six yards of him, headed in Elano's free-kick into the far corner.

Brazil doubled their lead after half an hour when Luís Fabiano pounced on the rebound after goalkeeper Mariano Andújar initially saved Maicon's shot.

Jésus Datolo gave the Argentine supporters hope when he cracked in a superb 30-yard effort into the top corner in the 65th minute.

The hosts' optimism was short-lived though as Fabiano scored a second by finishing off a counter-attack.
