Second explosion sparks chaos in away end
A second loud explosion was heard minutes later, though this firework did not land near players.Tensions reportedly flared among Inter supporters inside the away section, with many angered by the actions of the individual responsible, fearing the match could be abandoned.
Italian media reports claim the suspect was later identified after presenting at a Cremona hospital with a serious hand injury, allegedly losing three fingers whilst handling another flare.
Authorities are said to be investigating, with the individual expected to face arrest and a stadium ban.
Inter condemn incident and apologise
Inter moved quickly to distance themselves from the episode.Nerazzurri President Beppe Marotta described it as a "stupid gesture" and an unprecedented act of anti-sportsmanship, stressing the club's commitment to promoting safety and respect.
Team captain Lautaro Martínez also issued a public apology to his former team-mate after full-time.
These things can't happen. There's a personal risk. Footballers are human too.
We apologise to Audero, who was a winner with us when we claimed the second star, and we apologise to all the Cremonese fans. These things must not happen.
Match result overshadowed
Before the controversy, Inter had taken control of the match with first-half goals from Lautaro and Piotr Zieliński, securing a 2-0 victory. However, the result was overshadowed by the safety scare, which now leaves Inter awaiting disciplinary action from Italian football authorities.
Possible consequences include a heavy fine and restrictions on away supporter attendance.
The incident has reignited debate around stadium safety and the dangers posed by pyrotechnics, with football bodies under increasing pressure to impose stricter sanctions to deter similar behaviour.
