Liverpool moved sixth in the Premier League after a narrow 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at Anfield.
The Reds made the breakthrough inside 10 minutes when young French striker David Ngog cleverly applied a glancing header to Fábio Aurélio's cross.
Star striker Fernando Torres doubled the lead in the 79th minute as he raced behind Wigan's backline, rounded goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and bundled the ball past Titus Bramble.
Charles N'Zogbia netted in injury time to give Wigan a goal they deserved as Liverpool again failed to keep a clean sheet.
