Tottenham hijack Eiður Guðjohnsen's West Ham switch

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Ex-Chelsea and Barcelona forward Eiður Guðjohnsen has reportedly snubbed West Ham to join Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Sun, the AS Monaco ace has agreed a loan deal until the end of the season subject to a medical on Thursday morning.

West Ham believed they had a deal in place for Guðjohnsen, but a dramatic 11th hour move from Spurs on Tuesday scuppered their hopes.

"We've been talking about him for nearly two weeks and when we heard West Ham were interested we made our move," Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said.

"We are not paying a penny more than West Ham were offering him.

"Two identical deals were on the table. In the end it was a straight choice for Eiður."

New Hammers co-owner David Sullivan rapped: "We thought we had a deal and the player had even had a medical.

"I can't say I am happy about it but I believe in karma and what goes around, comes around."
