Barcelona player Gerard Piqué and his singer girlfriend Shakira were over the moon on Tuesday night after welcoming their first child at a hospital in Barcelona, Spain.
"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain," read a statement on Piqué's Facebook page.
"The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.
"Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.
"The hospital confirmed that the couple's first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health."
The news follows the release of several semi-nude photos of the couple in conjunction with a new charity initiative encouraging fans to send donations to poverty-stricken children.
The philanthropic project, coined "Shakira & Gerard Piqué's World Baby Shower to Help UNICEF Save Children's Lives," allows donors to choose from a number of "Inspired Gifts", which include a baby scale ($37), polio vaccine ($10) or even a $5 malaria net, all which will be donated to children in need.
