Arsenal kicked off their Champions League campaign by running out a convincing 6-0 rout over Portuguese runners-up Sporting Braga at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners opened the scoring after just nine minutes when Cesc Fàbregas scored from the penalty spot after Marouane Chamakh had been brought down by goalkeeper Luiz Felipe.

Andrei Arshavin doubled the lead on the half-hour mark with a cool finish before Jack Wilshere's back-heel set Chamakh up to make it 3-0 in the 34th minute.

After the break the onslaught continued as Fàbregas headed in a fourth on 53 minutes and substitute Carlos Vela rounded off another flowing move with a classy finish in the 69th minute.

Vela then completed the rout with a composed finish in the 84th minute after another good work from the imperious Fàbregas.
