The record seven-time Copa Libertadores winners were relegated for the first time in their history earlier this month.

Having won more domestic titles than anyone else but two clubs in Argentina, Independiente fans are looking for answers on how they can fight their way back to the top of the game.

President Cantero subsequently chaired a meeting with fans in an effort to appease their anger, but when angry fans didn't get the answers they hoped for, it all kicked off.

After speaking for a few minutes, Barra Brava hooligans entered and began to lob missiles, including fold up chairs and a table, onto the podium where Cantero was seated, forcing security to escort him from the building.

Despite the ugly scenes, no one was seriously injured in the clashes.

Prior to the incidents, approximately 300 members assembled themselves next to the club headquarters demanding the resignation of Cantero, together with the rest of the executive board.

The fans consider their president as the main responsible for Independiente's relegation, and the club's poor financial situation.
