Liverpool earned a third straight stalemate at home as they had to battle to secure a 2-2 draw against Hull City.

It could have been even worse for the Reds as the visitors astonishingly took a 2-0 lead at Anfield.

First Paul McShane leapt highest to head home Marlon King's cross past Pepe Reina, before Jamie Carragher inadvertently turned Bernard Mendy's cross into his own net.

But Steven Gerrard started to haul Liverpool back into the match on 24 minutes as the skipper slotted home from close range following Dirk Kuyt's low cross.

And the influential midfielder had his side back on terms in the 32nd minute after Yossi Benayoun had helped on Kuyt's knockdown.

With the home side chasing victory in the second half, Rafa Benítez surprisingly snubbed striker Robbie Keane, who once again left out on the bench, by using Nabil El Zhar, Ryan Babel and Lucas as his subs.

Arsenal also dropped two points at the Riverside as former Gunner Jeremie Aliadiere equalised to retrieve a 1-1 draw for Middlesbrough.

Emmanuel Adebayor headed Arsenal ahead on 17 minutes when he was left unmarked to meet Cesc Fàbregas’ corner in front of goal with a low header.

But Boro were back on terms before the break as Aliadiere guided home a powerful cross by Tuncay Şanlı.

Arsène Wenger could have seen his side's lead reversed before half time, with referee Peter Walton turning down a strong penalty shout for the home side when Gaël Clichy brought down Tony McMahon just inside the box.

Manchester United were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Tottenham as Dimitar Berbatov failed to shine on his return to White Hart Lane.

The Bulgarian striker, who left Spurs for Old Trafford in the summer, was jeered all evening.

His every touch was jeered and even when he was near the ball.

However, both sides could have won the match in the last 10 minutes as Park Ji-sung forced a diving save from goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes before Luka Modrić saw his deflected effort flew just over the bar.

Gomes then brilliantly turned Ryan Giggs' curling free-kick on to the crossbar.
