Atlético Madrid continued their fine start to 2010 with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Sporting Gijón at the Vicente Calderón.
Diego Forlán put Atlético ahead in the 14th minute by slotting past Juan Pablo Colinas, but Diego Castro equalised for Sporting from the penalty spot on 34 minutes.
The hosts regained the lead eight minutes after the break through Paulo Assunção before youngster Ibrahima Baldé scored his first goal for Atlético in the 66th minute.
Sporting set up a tense last few minutes when Luis Morán pulled another goal back for Sporting in injury time, but it came too late for the visiting side.
