The visitors took the lead after 17 minutes when Leighton Baines executed a quite stunning free-kick that arrowed into the top corner of Heurelho Gomes' net.
But Spurs equalized four minutes later after Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard dropped a high cross on his own line to allow Rafael van der Vaart to lash into the empty net.
